We came across a 1700s era farm house and barn last week that was being torn down to make way for condos in Bedford, MA. It was quite sad to walk a now baron and decimated property where a once vibrant farmhouse and barn stood among beautiful old-growth hardwoods. However, when we noticed the barn we saw an opportunity to save a little piece of history.
It was a simple pole-barn; 2.5 stories in height, medium-width pine floorboards, simple shake exterior siding over pine boards carefully nailed to the post-and-beam frame. It had stood the test of time and while I would have loved to have saved the entirety of the structure I settled for just a piece of it. After calling the developer and receiving the “okay” we carefully pried 12 linear feet of well-weathered boards off one side.
These boards will be cleaned, treated for bugs, and used on an accent wall in the front entryway.
